$880K of cocaine seized from trailer hauling broccoli in from Mexico

An inspection, which included the utilization of non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment, revealed 28 packages containing 65.96 pounds of alleged cocaine inside.

PHARR, Texas — More than $880,000 worth of cocaine was seized from a tractor trailer hauling broccoli at the Pharr International Bridge.

On Nov. 22. U.S. Customs and Border Protections, Office of Field Operations (OFO) officers encountered a tractor trailer hauling broccoli making entrance from Mexico. An inspection, which included the utilization of non-intrusive inspection (NII) equipment, revealed 28 packages containing 65.96 pounds of alleged cocaine concealed inside.

The estimated street value of the cocaine totaled out to $880,725.

“Our frontline CBP officers continue to exercise resolute vigilance, utilize their training, experience, technology and the end result is this significant seizure of cocaine,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. 

Officers seized the narcotics, tractor and trailer as Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents initiated a criminal investigation.
