HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Three men accused of stealing dozens of checks and money orders from mailboxes across the southwest Houston area were arrested over the weekend, according to Harris County Pct. 7 Constable’s Office.
Precinct 7 constables responded about 4 a.m. Saturday to reports that a group of men riding around in a Toyota were stealing items from mailboxes in the 13000 Grafton Bridge Lane.
When officers arrived, three of the men ran off and one drove away.
The driver Travonte Neville, 22, was taken into custody a short distance from the scene.He was arrested for evading.
Demani Dancy, 25, and Emnuel Riasos, 22, were also quickly captured. Investigators said a fourth man remains on the run. He’s has not been identified.
Deputies recovered over 120 stolen checks and money orders. They also found numerous pieces of other mail, the constable’s office said.
During the investigation, constables learned the mail was taken from several areas within Harris and Fort Bend counties.
Investigators said it appears the suspects stole the mail, checks and money orders from locked U.S. Postal Service mailboxes and the Missouri City Post Office.
All stolen mail has been turned over to the U.S. Postal Investigation Service, which is conducting a federal investigation.
