HOUSTON – A shooting after a birthday party inside a sports bar left one person dead and two others wounded early Sunday in south Houston, police said.
According to the Houston Police Department, it happened at 2:10 a.m. at the S&S Sports Bar located on Cullen near Almeda Genoa.
Investigators said William J. Whitfield, 31, began arguing with an unknown man after leaving the sports bar. Soon after, several men began shooting at Whitfield before fleeing, police said.
Whitfield and two of this relatives were struck: a 54-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman. His relatives were transported to the hospital, police said. One was shot in the leg and the other in the foot. Both are expected to survive.
Whitfield was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Security cameras on the property may have captured the shooting, and police will be working to determine who the shooters are.
Witnesses were being interviewed downtown. Police said possibly a hundred or more people were at the club at the time of the shooting.
The scene was littered with shell casings.
