'An eyesore' | Neighbors say nuisance property in Channelview attracts graffiti, illegal dumping, gunfire

The property appears to be owned by an oil tank company which the county said is on its radar.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Things suddenly take a turn for the worse where South Drive in Channelview becomes West Drive.

"It's an eyesore,” neighbor Sharon Cox said.

"We've seen people go in and out of that home,” neighbor Christy Perkins said.

It's due to a long-abandoned house that’s become a landmark for all the wrong reasons.

“I don’t know how many people they’ve run out of it over the years,” neighbor Larry Landry said.

He said the home’s been a magnet for misdeeds ever since a longtime owner died.

"Lord have mercy," Landry said. "I can’t remember that far back.”

Graffiti, illegal dumping, and even gunfire are among the issues neighbors said they’ve witnessed over the years.

"Could be all kinds of stuff going on in there that’s probably not any good,” Perkins said.

According to property records, a company called Oiltanking Houston, LP took ownership of the home and property in 2013. Its local phone number is no longer in service.

It appears to be connected to a Germany-based company by the same name which did not immediately respond to our questions.

However, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office confirms the property is on its radar as part of a joint-agency nuisance abatement program and that the company has been contacted.

"You go by there and it kind of makes this whole area look pretty bad,” Cox said.

She and others would like to see the house either fixed up or torn down.

"If it’s owned by a company, then they need to take responsibility for it," Cox said.
