WALLIS, Texas Three family members were killed in a glider crash in Wallis Sunday afternoon.
One of the victims was a 3-year-old boy.
Investigators said the glider was being towed by another plane just before the crash.
When the plane released the glider around 5 p.m., the glider apparently took a nosedive and crashed at Highway 36 and Cougar Road, near the Austin-Fort Bend County line.
We ve got witness accounts saying they saw it pitch up to the right, to the left [the tow pilot] saw it was pitched a little bit high. That indicates he was out of control, Glen Longlion with the FAA said.
All three of the occupants 68-year-old Fred Blair, 32-year-old Matilda Blair and 3-year-old Andrew Blair died at the scene.
Fred Blair was Matilda Blair s father-in-law. Andrew was Fred Blair s grandson.
Investigators said the glider is a two-seater, and Andrew was strapped to his mother in one of the seats.
Family members were standing nearby, watching the glider fly when it crashed.
The Greater Houston Gliding Association said Fred Blair was a gliding instructor and certified as a commercial pilot.
The exact cause of the crash was under investigation Monday.
