HOUSTON — Look we get that some people love Black Friday shopping - it’s like the Super Bowl for bargain hunters.
But not everyone likes lining up at stores while they are still digesting turkey and all the fixings. And for those people there is some good news. During the pandemic, retailers started shifting their deals to websites hoping to discourage crowds on Black Friday. That trend has continued with CNET reporting some stores are offering exclusive or earlier deals online. That means you can do all that bargain-hunting from your couch.
But there are still some benefits to braving the crowds in person. There is the obvious advantage of not having to wait for things to be shipped. Also, there are still doorbuster deals out there. Maybe not as many as there used to be but they still exist and to get those crazy discounts you have to show up.
It looks like shoppers are waiting for those big deals. The Commerce Department reports retail sales were lower in October than in September. They were only down point one percent but they were still down. According to Forbes, shoppers are waiting for deeper discounts - online and in stores - before opening their wallets.
