TEXAS, USA — It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a...Walmart delivery?
The retailer says it's expanding its delivery operations through a partnership with DroneUp, which will provide express deliveries to customers.
Walmart is expanding its drone delivery service to 34 sites across six states by the end of 2022.
Walmart says they'll be able to offer same-day deliveries to four million U.S. households across Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Utah, Virginia, and of course, Texas.
Between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., Walmart says customers can order from thousands of eligible items including diapers, hot dog buns and over-the-counter pain medications.
The items can total up to 10 pounds, so if it fits, it can fly safely and be delivered in as little as 30 minutes. And the delivery fee is only $3.99.
Walmart says while they thought customers would use it for emergency items, customers like the convenience of it. For example, Walmart says the top-selling item at one of its drone hubs is Hamburger Helper.
All drones are operated by a team of certified pilots operating within FAA guidelines to safely manage flight operations, according to Walmart.
Once customers order, the item gets fulfilled and packaged in store, then loaded on the drone for delivery.
