How does the Dr. Pepper shake really taste?

HOUSTON — When two iconic Texas brands got together and whipped up a milkshake, we knew it was time for a taste test.

We loaded up a cooler of Dr. Pepper shakes and took them downtown before an Astros game. We met the Aguilar family and handed out the cups.

Everyone liked the flavor but Chris Aguilar said he couldn’t taste his favorite soft drink.

"I don't taste any Dr Pepper in there,” he said. “Nothing at all, and I'm a Dr. Pepper guy."

Angela Aguilar tasted all the different flavors. “It has a hint of Dr. Pepper but the majority is the vanilla,” she said. “It tastes like a Dr. Pepper float.”

The new flavor was released on April 2 but many people thought it was an April Fool’s joke. On social media, Whataburger confirmed the new flavor.

"I love Dr. Pepper and I love Whataburger but I was confused about them being together but it works," admitted another fan named Ryan.

The Dr. Pepper shake is only available in parts of Whataburger country. Other areas have the root beer or salted caramel float. Check out the map that Whataburger sent to us to find what’s available in your area.
