Igloo's "Recool" cooler

HOUSTON — Houston-based Igloo has a new cooler called “Recool” that the company says is made from biodegradable materials.

It may look like a cardboard box, but Igloo says it is strong and can keep ice for up to 12 hours and water for five days without leaking. The 16 qt cooler holds up to 75 pounds and won’t chip or crack like plastic coolers.

The lid also has built in cup holders.

“It is designed to take some rough and tumble -- it won’t chip or break when bumped or dropped like commonly happens with foam coolers, and best of all, no annoying squeaking noises, ever. It’s your silent partner in crime,” states Igloo’s website.

By the way, it is reusable (make sure you air it out), and it’s made in the USA.

So what’s it made of?

Igloo says it contains recycled paper pulp and Alkyl ketene dimer, also known as AKD, which is a natural binding and waxing agent to hold all that pulp together in the shape of a cooler.
