HOUSTON — Texans are in need right now, following power and water outages brought on by this unprecedented winter storm. What they don’t need is people taking advantage of them. That’s why the Harris County Attorney’s Office and Fort Bend County Attorney's Office want to hear from you if you notice price gouging.
By Texas law, price gouging is when a business or individual to charge exorbitant or excessive prices for food, gas, medicine, lodging or other necessities during a declared emergency.
If you think you’ve been the victim of price gouging, the Harris County attorney’s office says you can file a report three different ways. Make sure you take a photo of the product and price, and save your receipt.
1. Email to consumerhelp@cao.hctx.net. Follow the instructions at harriscountycao.org/pricegouging.
2. Text complaint, pictures and receipts to 346-354-7459.
3. Website – Complete the online form at harriscountycao.org/report-price-gouging.
