COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) has released the name of one of the three bars who sold counterfeit alcohol during an undercover operation.
The Social Lounge in Northgate was issued a written warning on Aug. 4 for not serving customers the drinks they purchased.
During the "Operation Bottoms Up" investigation, TABC found one sample where the Social Lounge sold counterfeit liquor. Chris Porter, the public information officer for TABC, said it's possible human error is to blame, rather than the bar intentionally deceiving its customers.
Porter said two other bars in the BCS are being "heavily investigated." TABC is waiting to release the names of those bars until they receive the findings from the Federal Alcohol, Tobacco and Trade Bureau.
Porter released the following statement regarding the findings:
We collected multiple samples from each location, and in this case, only one sample came back as counterfeit. Since it's a single instance, it's possible that human error was to blame, rather than an intentional attempt to deceive customers. Because of that, TABC issued a written warning to remind the business owner that they have a responsibility to ensure customers receive the drinks they pay for.
