Amazon Prime raises annual membership fee | Is it worth it for you?

The price hike might not be worth it for some Prime customers. But Amazon doesn't make cancelling your membership that easy.

Shoppers love Amazon Prime. It's almost a no-brainer that you want a fast and free package delivery.

But you might want to check your bank statements. The annual membership fee just went up this month from $119 to $139.

That's double the price from when it first launched. Members only payed $79 a year for two-day free shipping on most items.

Some people might be obsessed with that blue truck showing up to their door, but it might not be worth the price hike for others. If you only shop on Amazon a half dozen times a year and you don't use its Prime Video service, it might not make sense for you to use Prime.

After all, you can still get free shipping on most items over $25 without paying for the membership.

Many people don't cancel their Amazon Prime account though, even if they rarely use it. But that's because it's not so simple.

Kiplinger Personal Finance says Amazon doesn't email to ask if you want to renew your membership. They just charge you automatically for the new year.

To cancel it, you'd need to go to "Your Account," then "Manage Prime Membership."

So take a few minutes to figure out how many time you really use Amazon Prime. If you don't use it often, then don't waste your money.
