SUGAR LAND, Texas — Someone woke up a Mega Millions jackpot winner Wednesday. The $800 million ticket was sold at a Murphy Express off of Highway 90 in Sugar Land.
The Texas Lottery said the Quick Pick ticket netted the seventh largest prize in Mega Millions history, which inspired others to try their luck.
"Man, somebody is going to enjoy themselves. I wish it was me," Beaver Knighton, Jr. said.
He regularly makes his Quick Picks at the same store.
"I guess I slipped this time," Knighton said.
After hearing the news about the winner, Robert Nieto was inspired to play since the store is close to his home.
Nieto knows exactly what he would do with the money.
"I would probably divide it between me and my family," Nieto said.
Knighton even has some words of encouragement for the winner.
"Live good, enjoy yourself. I'm looking for retirement pretty soon, that [prize] would've been my retirement there," Knighton said.
After matching all six numbers (1-2-16-24-66, Mega Ball 6), The Texas Lottery said the player chose the cash value option, an estimated $404 million before taxes.
The winner has 180 days from the draw date to claim the prize, which has not yet been claimed.
“If you’re the lucky holder of the winning ticket, be sure to sign it, secure it in a safe place, consult financial and legal advisors and then contact the Texas Lottery before making your way to Austin to claim the prize," said Ryan Mindell, executive director of the Texas Lottery.
