'Create these items for our community' | Houston-area twin sisters seek support for their small business this holiday shopping season

For twin sisters Maira and Marlene Delgadillo, Monday is especially exciting. Their online business, Cultura Confetti, is celebrating its first Cyber Monday.

HOUSTON — Cyber Monday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year, with Americans expected to spend roughly $13 billion online. While big corporations lead in sales, small businesses are hoping to get some of that support.

For twin sisters Maira and Marlene Delgadillo, of Houston, Monday is especially exciting. Their online business, Cultura Confetti, is celebrating its first Cyber Monday.

It all started during the COVID-19 pandemic when the sisters created a party headband by hand using hot glue, tinsel and cardstock. Their first design, a festive “Feliz Año Nuevo” headband, sparked an idea that quickly grew into a full-time online business.

They sold out their first batch of 100 products.

"At that time we were like 'Oh my gosh that's such a big number for us'" Maira said.

Cultura Confetti specializes in party supplies for birthdays, Christmas, bachelorette parties and other celebrations. What makes these products unique is that they're in Spanish -- which is typically hard to find.

"To create these items for our community and seeing people purchase them, it's amazing," Marlene said.

The sisters hope shoppers will choose to support small businesses like theirs on Cyber Monday.

"I love supporting other Houston natives who are turning their dreams into a livelihood," Marlene said. "Support them because they're supporting their dreams."
