NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Twins were born at Yale New Haven Hospital during the New Year's festivities, with one baby bringing an end to 2023 and another ringing in 2024.
Parents Mykel and Aliyah Kiyomi Morris, of Hamden, welcomed a boy and a girl just minutes, - or, rather, a year - apart. Seven Morris entered the world at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2023. He weighed in at 6 lbs. 9 oz.
His twin sister, Souli Morris, is Yale's official New Year's baby, and she was born at 12:02 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2024. Souli also weighed in at 6 lbs. and 9 oz.
The hospital said the family is "doing great and getting some well-deserved rest."
Other area hospitals are also celebrating the first babies of the year.
At Hartford Hospital, Murielle and Sterling Gatewood, from Enfield, welcome their baby boy.
"Baby Gatewood" made his entrance into the world at 12:06 a.m., weighing 7 lbs 9 oz.
"He's our New Year's blessing!" his parents said.
At St. Vincent's Medical Center, Tiffany and Angel, from Waterbury, welcomed their son Myles into the world at 12:23 a.m. He weighed 7 lbs 10 oz.
His parents said it was the "perfect way to start the New Year."
