HOUSTON — A young Houston businesswoman is spicing things up
Tyla-Simone Crayton is known as the ‘sauce boss of Sienna,’ and she’s behind Sienna Sauce.
Crayton recently made history as the youngest Black woman restaurant owner to have a culinary residency with Pepsi at the MGM resorts in Las Vegas. She says the honor is due in part to support from the community.
“We were able to apply for the program and the communities had to nominate restaurants and the top five restaurants were going to be chosen as the Pepsi Dig-In restaurants and then Pepsi fell in love with our story and brand and thankfully chose us for the residency.”
Crayton has accomplished a lot at just 21 years old. She's currently in her senior year at Berkeley and has already opened a brick-and-mortar location. Her products are also available at H-E-B and on Amazon.
"What keeps me going is just that the vision in the dream and being able to show other young Black entrepreneurs this is possible," she said. "There's not one specific industry you have to go in to succeed. We don't see a lot of Black entrepreneurs in the food product space. It's difficult, it's hard, it's male-dominated. And so I think that's what keeps me going. Building a legacy for my family. Building generational wealth is important."
Her residency runs through December 13 in Vegas but you can stop by her restaurant right here in Houston in Missouri City.
