Keith Lee effect hits Pearland sweets shop, SW Houston Jamaican joint

Keith Lee, a popular TikTok food critic, is helping get the word out about some top-notch Houston eateries.

HOUSTON — Keith Lee has done it again!

The popular TikTok food critic is helping get the word out about some top-notch Houston eateries.

Less than 24 hours after posting a video about The Puddery in Pearland, business picked up. In the video, he said he was confused as to why the restaurant didn't have more business.

"I'm not even a sweets person. This is immaculate. I'm not gonna lie, for them not to be out the door, I'm absolutely speechless. I don't say this often," Lee said about the dessert shop.

Just like that, the day after the review, the line was, in fact, out the door and around the corner before The Puddery even opened Wednesday.

Owner Janel Prator said they sold out of most of their desserts around 3:30 p.m.

Lee featured the Oreo croffle and the strawberry banana pudding.

"We renamed the croffle the 'Keith Lee croffle.' ... The strawberry pudding was the first to sell out," Prator said. "It's huge. Yesterday, I had five customers. Today (Wednesday), I've had about 90 customers. I'm expecting a lot more tomorrow."

Lee also reviewed Cool Runnings, a Jamaican restaurant in southwest Houston.

He gave the brown stew chicken a 10 out of 10.

"That's some of the best food in Houston and Houston has a plethora of places to choose from. Houston has some of the most diverse and biggest array of food since we've been on food tour," Lee said.

Overall, Lee has been impressed with the Houston restaurant scene.

He's also been generous. After learning that someone had stolen the tip jar at Cool Runnings, he went inside and replaced the stolen $50 with a $1,000 tip. He also tipped the cook and paid for the orders of everyone in line.
