HOUSTON - KHOU 11 anchor Rekha Muddaraj caught up with a local Indian chef to show KHOU 11 viewers how to make Chilla, a traditional Indian breakfast dish.
In the video above, Chef Anita Jaisinghani from Pondicheri Cafe in River Oaks went step by step on how to make the yummy dish that resembles a pancake.
The dish is from Sindh, which was originally a part of India and is now a province in Pakistan.

The following recipe makes one serving:
INGREDIENTS:
1 large egg
2 Tbsp chickpea flour
1 Tbsp oil or ghee
1 Tbsp yogurt or milk
A pinch of salt and pepper
Oil or ghee for pan frying
Optional additions: Pinches of spices like ajwain, chili powder, coriander seeds
Toppings: Chopped kale, chopped spinach, herbs, tomatoes, sliced zucchini...more egg
DIRECTIONS:
Whisk all ingredients together and heat a non-stick pan with a little bit of oil in it. Pour batter gently into a circle in pan. Let mixture cook for 1-2 minutes on medium heat, then add any vegetables or herbs. When the surface looks like it's almost done, flip it over and cook for another minute. Serve with a dollop of plain yogurt and enjoy.
Other options: Almond butter, pomegranate seeds, fresh berries, etc.
