EL PASO, Texas — Burning down the house might be the first thought if you ever see bugs crawling around in your pantry.
Crews in West Texas are bulldozing piles of pecan shells in hopes of cracking down on a red flour beetle infestation.
The red flour beetle is a type of weevil that infests flour, rice, cornmeal or other dry goods in your pantry.
According to an article published earlier this month by Texas A&M AgriLife, most people unknowingly bring the beetles home from infested grocery products.
In recent cases, beetles are going after processed pecan shells in areas around El Paso. Experts said the infestation is contained to the pecan shells.
