MANVEL, Texas — Folks in a small Texas town in Brazoria County came together to save a dog that had what appeared to be a plastic bowl stuck on its head. We're happy to say the story has a happy ending and the dog was finally rescued Wednesday afternoon. It's being treated by a local veterinarian.
The lab mix was first spotted in Manvel on Tuesday and the police department posted a picture and asked residents to be on the lookout for it.
Along with police officers, Manvel Mayor Dan Davis, animal control officers and community members had been driving around town searching for the dog. The frightened pooch was spotted on Del Bello and County Road 58 but when people tried to get near her, she ran off.
"Myself and others have done searching and weren’t able to find him and others are organizing another round of searches," Davis posted Tuesday night.
Police officers tried to sedate the dog and even brought in drones to help track her down.
"They darted him but he ran off into the words and they weren’t able to locate him with drones," the mayor said.
People were worried the dog wouldn't be able to breathe with the bowl covering its nose and mouth.
Not long after we shared our story, police said the dog had been captured, she was safe and headed for the vet. Good job, Manvel.
