'Urban coyote' spotted in Lake Jackson | What to do if you see it

“We definitely do not want residents to try and approach it," said Lora-Marie Bernard with Lake Jackson.

LAKE JACKSON, Texas — Officials in Brazoria County are asking people to be on the lookout for an 'urban coyote' that was first reported to animal control in Lake Jackson a few weeks ago.

Since then, the city said the coyote has been spotted in a few places near the bayou. Neighbors have also reported seeing the coyote in nearby parks and even in their backyards.

Lake Jackson's Animal Control Department has been posting updates to its Facebook page when a sighting is reported. The department said the coyote appears to be healthy and believes that it should keep its distance from humans. Lake Jackson police officers are monitoring where the coyote has been sighted.
