Andre Johnson welcomes family into new Habitat home

For the last 10 years, Nicole White has been renting a rundown home. She recently became a homeowner and Palais Royal gifted her with new appliances and Texans tickets.

HOUSTON - A single mom was speechless Wednesday morning when she drove to her new home and found new appliances and clothes sitting in her driveway.

The items were a treat from Palais Royal. The department store teamed up with Houston Habitat for Humanity to provide Nicole White and her two kids with more than 100 donated home goods, electronics, bedding and clothing valued at $3,600.

Palais Royal also gifted the family with a game package for Thursday's Texans game and an opportunity to run on the field with the players during the opening ceremony. Former Texan and Ring of Honor inductee Andre Johnson was at the home to give White and her daughter Toni the game tickets.

"I always said I'd never forget where I come from. I had some situations growing up as a kid. When you have to go through those situation, anytime you can help somebody, it's always big to go out and do it," said Johnson.

White's sister, mother and nephews came to the home after the presentation and cried tears of joy for her.

For the last 10 years, White has been renting a rundown home. The property was falling apart, and there was little she could do to improve her and her kid's situation.

White needed help, so she turned to the Houston Habitat for Humanity for assistance.

After working with the nonproft for the past year, she prepared herself to become a homeowner and is excited to now have her own place.

Palais Royal is the official department store of the Houston Texans. This is the first time they have teamed up with Houston Habitat for Humanity.
