HOUSTON — Two Texas cities landed spots on the top 10 most Instagrammable places in America, according to a new study.

Austin is ranked No. 9, followed closely by Houston.

RubyHome Northwest came up with the list by analyzing over 895 million Instagram posts featuring location hashtags for the 25 largest cities in the U.S.

1. New York City tops the list with 183.9 million Instagram posts. A staggering 61.8 million travelers visited The Big Apple last year and posted photos of the city's most popular and iconic attractions.

2. On the opposite coast, Los Angeles took second place with 141.3 million posts. The City of Angels welcomed some 50 million visitors in 2023.  The famous Hollywood sign and Hollywood Walk of Fame are among the hot spots for Instagram.

3. Chicago, The Windy City, was a distant third with 60.2 million posts.

4. Las Vegas hit the jackpot at the fourth spot with over 54 million posts. What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of photos of visitors enjoying The Strip, casinos and nightlife that Sin City offers.

5. A lot of Instagrammers left their hearts in San Francisco, which took the fifth spot with over 45.9 million posts.

6. Our nation's capital ranked sixth with over 45.5 million posts. Of course, Washington D.C. has the White House, U.S. Capitol and several famous monuments. It's also known for its beautiful cherry blossom trees, which were a gift from Japan in 1912.

7. Back to the West Coast where San Diego claimed the seventh spot. The picturesque city appeared in over 39.5 million Instagram posts. The city's 70 miles of coastline and world-famous San Diego Zoo were favorite spots to pose and post.

8. Next on the list is Seattle with over 37.6 million posts. The Space Needle, Pike Place Market and majestic Mount Ranier were among the popular attractions for visitors.

9. Austin, the quirky capital of Texas and "Live Music Capital of the World," is next on the list at No. 9. The area's lakes, urban bat population and the University of Texas were among the sites featured in over 34 million posts.

10. Finally, Houston finished just behind Austin with 33.9 million posts. Of course, H-Town has a lot to offer for Instagrammers with its beautiful skyline, Discovery Green, graffiti park, public art, iconic fountains and our vibrant restaurant scene.

“The ranking shows how these cities have all become cultural icons on the world map," RubyHome Northwest said. "Their significance is due in part to the well-known and loved landmarks they are home to, with the Golden Gate Bridge and The Empire State Building being two of the most popular, generating over 3 million hashtags each."
