The Middle
ABC, 8 ET/PT
Here’s a scenario familiar to parents ever since Athenians first sent their kids to Socrates — being confronted by a child who suddenly thinks everything you do, say and think is wrong. Which is what happens to poor Frankie, who's thrilled at the chance to have lunch with Sue and her new boyfriend, until the lecture begins. On the plus side, at least the lunch date gets her away from Brick, who is obsessing over an Internet satisfaction survey.
Strong
NBC, 9 ET/PT
NBC has a special episode of The Voice (8 ET/PT), which is a pretty good indicator the network has a new series for which it needs a launching pad. And here it is, though in the case of Strong, “new” is used loosely. Like most reality shows these days, this offering from executive producer Sylvester Stallone is a mash-up of other series, as 10 women team with 10 male trainers for a fitness competition. Think The Biggest Loser meets American Ninja Warrior, and you probably won’t be far off.
Black-ish
ABC, 9:30 ET/PT
In the midst of a terrific second season, Black-ish is tackling an age-old family issue, with a new twist. Dre’s sister Rhonda is getting married, and their mother is unhappy with her choice. The twist? Rhonda is marrying a woman.
