HOUSTON — On Monday, July 8th Jan Cancila stopped by Great Day Houston to discuss an upcoming Sew-A-Thon hosted by Sew Powerful. Sew Powerful is a nonprofit organization that is combating extreme poverty in Zambia through hand sewn purses and hygiene supplies for school girls. In Zambia students must pass a 7th grade exam in order to continue their education. When girls miss 25 percent of the school year because they have no hygiene supplies, they are not likely to pass the test, cannot continue their education nor can they break the cycle of poverty. Sew Powerful sends these girls purses filled with these supplies to encourage these girls to stay in school. For more information visit, sewpowerful.org.
