Ring of Fire: Annular Solar Eclipse Viewing at Land Sea & Sky

On Saturday, October 14, the Annual Solar Eclipse will start in Oregon and end in Texas. When, where and how to get the best glimpse of it in our area.

HOUSTON — Land Sea & Sky was founded in 1940, they started out repairing ships' compasses, training ship captains and sailors on navigation. Over time, because binoculars are a part of every ship, they started selling binoculars. Now, Land Sea & Sky (www.instagram.com/landseaskyhouston) is a retailer of premier optics, from telescope, binoculars and microscopes, in Houston, across Texas, and across the U.S. They sell products at their Montrose store and online.

During an eclipse, the moon passes between the sun and the earth so that the moon casts a shadow on the earth's surface. Where you are in relation to that shadow determines how significant the eclipse is for you at your location. This eclipse is an annular eclipse, meaning the moon's position is such that it does not completely cover the sun at maximum coverage. To view safely, you will need special glasses or filters, even at totality.
