Photographer Richard Sharum is coming to FotoFest Biennal 2024 in Houston to share his work 'Spina Americana'

Photographer, Richard Sharum, will show photographs from his forthcoming book "Spina Americana" in the "Ten by Ten" exhibit at The Silos at Sawyer Yards.

HOUSTON — Richard Sharum's "Spina Americana" is set to release this Fall on GOST Books and will feature a selection of photographs from an expansive range of locations along the backbone or "spine" and geographic center of the United States. By creating a vertical line running 50 miles East and 50 miles West of Lebanon, Kansas, the photographer's second book will feature documentary style images from his travels. Making a point to pass through each of these often overlooked cities, "Spina Americana" is a visual narrative of the people and places he met along his journey. While expansive in range, the area of focus is, in actuality, only 100 miles wide, and shows an honest look at the range of people, cultures, traditions, and weather from border to border.

The Texas-based documentary photojournalist will show photographs from his forthcoming book on GOST Books "Spina Americana" in "Ten by Ten: Ten Portfolios from the Meeting Place 2022-23" at The Silos at Sawyer Yards. Ten by Ten will feature works by Sharum and former artists who participated in FotoFest's portfolio review sessions in 2022 and 2023 who were nominated by industry leaders in the field.

Sharum will also be part of "Creative Conversations: Elizabeth Chiles, Rebecca Finley, Rashed Haq, Richard Sharum, and Raymond Thompson Jr. in Conversation with Brandon Zech" on Friday, March 15 at 6 p.m.

It's happening at The Hangar at Silver Street Studios and it's free to attend.
