HOUSTON — Kwanzaa is a week-long celebration that begins on December 26 and honors African heritage, culture, and traditions.
It was established in the 1960s as a response to the civil rights movement, aiming to create a sense of unity and pride within the African American community.
The holiday focuses on seven principles, known as the Nguzo Saba, which promote values such as unity, self-determination, and collective responsibility.
Kwanzaa seeks to encourage reflection on the struggles and achievements of African Americans, fostering a sense of empowerment, family, and cultural connection.
