If you're on a dating app or in a new relationship - listen up! Plenty of Fish released a new report that surveyed 2,000 U.S. singles ages 18 and up about what makes them "swipe left" during in-app chats. Overall, 74% of people said good conversation is the best indicator of great chemistry on a date, even over physical attraction. Plus, 83% of singles agreed that good conversations on apps, usually leads to the best date conversations as well.
So what to avoid? Here's the top offenses:
- You don’t use “their,” “there” and “they’re” correctly. If you are a person of quality (and you live in the digital world) grammar is key. More than half (58%) of responders said bad grammar is an even bigger turnoff than bad sex. Yikes.
- You take too long to respond. The waiting game is the quickest way to put someone on ice. 89% of singles will respond to a message within 12 hours if interested, and 23% will respond right away. Don't worry about crafting a super long response either, just a note saying you say the message and you're swamped is better than nothing!
- You use explicit emojis. Keep it cool, calm and sex-free. The least popular emoji was the eggplant. 🍆 which was hated by 75% of respondents. The most popular emojis sent cute vibes, rather than physical vibes. The 😉 (55%), 😘 (43%) and 😍 (41%) icons topped the list!
So to win the day, over 60% of respondents said opening a conversation with a shared experience or memory will cause them to write back. Save your one-liners and cheesy jokes for later.
