The future of Showtime’s dramedy Shameless is brighter following salary negotiations with series star Emmy Rossum, which were reported by The Hollywood Reporter and Variety.
The industry news outlets cite unnamed sources that said the actress had asked for more pay than her co-star, William H. Macy, to account for numerous seasons with a wage gap.
Variety reports the actress was offered pay equal to her counterpart. Warner Bros. Television, which produces the series, declined comment.
On Wednesday, Rossum tweeted that playing Fiona Gallagher has been one of the great privileges of her life, and she would continue to fill the role.
"I'm so happy to continue w my SHAMELESS family! Back to work in May!" she posted.
When the series premiered in 2011, Rossum, 30, was less well-known than Macy, with roles in The Day After Tomorrow and The Phantom of the Opera, for which she received a Golden Globe nomination.
Over the show’s seven seasons, Rossum has been nominated for a People’s Choice Award and two Critics’ Choice Television Awards for her work on the series.
Academy Award-winning Macy, 66, was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for male actor in a comedy series Wednesday, an award he won in 2015, and has been nominated for three Emmys, one Critics’ Choice Television Award, and one Golden Globe for his portrayal of the alcoholic, deadbeat father, Frank Gallagher.
Despite his acclaim and the longevity of his career, Macy told TMZ he supports his co-star.
“She works as hard as I do," he said. "She deserves everything."
