Beyonce arrives at Met Gala, sans Jay Z

The red carpet at the Met Gala -- which had been buzzing for more than two hours with frenetic reporters and women struggling to walk up the museum's stairs in heavy dresses with extravagant trains -- went eerily quiet around 8:30 p.m. It was the first signal the queen was near, before her trumpeters, or in this case, fans lining the streets outside could announce her presence.

Beyonce arrived in style in a latex Givenchy dress, the very last to walk into the party... sans husband Jay Z.

Jay's absence didn't go unnoticed at the event where, two years ago, Bey's sister Solange attacked him in an elevator for reasons still largely unknown.

A smiling Bey didn't seem to mind going solo despite the questions her attendance instantly raised. Were all of the cheating allegations and marital issues in the lyrics of Lemonade really about them? Or is this another part of an elaborate rouse? Do we even care?

The answer to the last is likely no. Because we've been listening to the album on repeat since it's release a little over a week ago, and we'd give our right arm to look like that in essentially a nude rubber coating.

So Beyonce walked straight past gawking journalists, most of whom weren't delusional enough to try to get her to approach for a question, before the red carpet dissolved, everyone happy to see their monarch looking beautiful and safely inside.
