Even the Divine Bette Midler can be brought to Earth by inappropriate Twitter talk.

Midler apologized Sunday for a weekend tweet about Caitlyn Jenner which caused an uproar online.

Midler specifically aimed her apology at the Human Rights Campaign, which works with the public on issues that transgender people face, for her tweet many on social media labeled as "transphobic."

"Dear friends @HRC whom I have always supported. Sorry last tweet offended," Midler wrote. "An idle musing. I seem to have misread the temper of the times."

The now-deleted tweet on Saturday referenced the Aug. 16 cancellation of Jenner's I Am Cait reality show. Jenner's transgender journey from Bruce Jenner ended on the E! network after two seasons.

"Now that @IAmCait has been cancelled, will she go back to being Bruce? Will Kris take him back? Do I smell a re-wedding?!" Midler tweeted, according to Metro-UK.

Jenner, who has been the target of Midler tweets in the past, was not mentioned in the apology and has remained quiet on Twitter since announcing on Tuesday the ending of the reality show .
