KHOU 11 honored at National Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala

KHOU 11 was honored for Continuing Coverage and Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

NEW YORK — KHOU 11 was in attendance at the National Edward R. Murrow Awards Gala in New York City Monday night to receive two awards.

One award is in Continuing Coverage for our investigation into the Coffee City Police Department. The other is for Excellence in Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion for the documentary, "Juneteenth 1865-2023: Freedom to Learn.” You can see both below.

CONTINUING COVERAGE

KHOU 11 was honored with a National Murrow Award for Continuing Coverage for their investigation into the Coffee City Police Department. Coffee City is a Texas town of about 250 people with 50 sworn police officers. That's five times the number of any town its size. Many of those officers have troubled pasts.

EXCELLENCE IN DIVERSITY, EQUALITY, AND INCLUSION

KHOU 11 was also honored with a National Murrow Award for Excellence in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for its third Juneteenth documentary. In “Juneteenth 1865-2023: The Freedom to Learn,” KHOU 11 told the stories about African Americans’ fight for education after being denied for 250 years.
