HOUSTON — Severe thunderstorms are producing heavy rain across the Houston area.
Here in Houston, it doesn’t take a lot of standing water to damage your car.
You can lose control or stall out in less than six inches of water. In just a foot of water, your car can start to float. In only two feet of water, your car can easily be carried away while you’re still in it.
If you come across any high-water spots, remember the saying: "Turn around, don't drown." If floodwaters do rise around your car, abandon the vehicle and move to higher ground.

Polk County
Part of US 59 in Polk County was covered in water after heavy rain oushed through the area. All main lanes remain of UP 190 north of Baskin Loop overpass were closed due to tha water levels. Commuters will need to choose otehr routes.
Walker County
The Walker County of Emergency management said there were 12 water rescues overnight and several roads were closed, Monday morning. The are got about 6 inches of rain overnight.
