MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — A Montgomery County Sheriff's deputy was shot Thursday near Magnolia.
The sheriff's office said the deputy was stabilized and taken to the hospital — he expected to fully recover.
Multiple law enforcement agencies were searching overnight for the suspect near the 22000 block of Allyson Road, which is off 149 just north of FM 1488. They asked residents to remain inside and to avoid the area.
But that suspect is now in custody.
Deputies said the incident started when the man allegedly fired gunshots at his neighbors. When deputies arrived, they were fired at as well.
One of the deputies was struck with what authorities believe is bird shot from a shotgun. The deputy suffered injuries to his leg, arm and head.
The suspect fled but was later located, and deputies talked him into surrendering peacefully.
"We would like to thank the public for their prayers/support for our injured deputy," the sheriff's office noted in a press release.
At this time, no names have been released.
