Christmas came early for one San Antonio family. Members of a martial arts studio joined together to make this holiday special for a deserving family.
The Christmas surprise was delivered to Judith Baca and her four children Wednesday. Yanira, Giovanni, Joel and Angel were greeted with a loud 'Merry Christmas' and a pile of presents.
"I had no idea like this many presents were waiting for us," said Baca.
The gifts included toys and clothes for the kids and a free, year-long membership to Jeff Speakman's Kenpo Karate.
The karate studio asked a nearby Elementary school for help with their holiday mission. They wanted to give a great Christmas to a deserving family.
The children had not taken martial arts classes and most of the presents were from total strangers. Baca said the community love means a lot to her family.
"We wanted them to feel special. Because she's a working mom, she has four children,” said Truitt Wieland, who is the owner of the martial arts studio. “It's important that we not just give something but see the impact that it makes on people."
The excitement built as package after colorful package was passed to each of the five family members.
“Thank you so much,” said Baca. “We never had anything like this before so it's amazing it feels very nice."
Joel Ruiz said his Christmas wishes of spending time with family and getting to use the punching bag all in one place, definitely came true.
