HOUSTON — A fatal crash blocked multiple lanes of the Eastex Freeway north of downtown Friday.
The accident happened on I-59 near Quitman Street, cutting off all northbound lanes just before noon. Lanes have reopened since then.
Houston Police Department sergeants say a woman was driving north on the freeway when her car suddenly stopped and swerved in front of a pickup truck.
The truck then slammed into the back of the woman's car.
Investigators said she was pronounced dead at St. Joseph's Medical Center.
The driver of the pickup truck was not hurt and stayed at the scene.
Police believe the woman may have had a medical emergency just before the crash.
The investigation is ongoing.
