One of the more important questions newest Texan Tyrann Mathieu faced in his introductory press conference involved where exactly he will play in the Houston defense. Mathieu played all over the secondary during his years in Arizona, seeing time at both safety spots as well as slot corner and some linebacker.

Mathieu believes he will begin his Texans tenure as a safety.

“I do believe I will start at safety,” Mathieu answered. “And then from there, we will see. The coaches made it clear that (they) don’t want to put too much on my plate, so I’ll focus on safety and I’ll try to work on that craft and help the team there, to start.”

The Texans return starting free safety Andre Hal, who played well in 2017. Corey Moore recently re-signed with the team, too. Kurtis Drummond and Ibraheim Campbell are also in the safety mix.
