Fans who took in the Houston Astros' home opener against the Baltimore Orioles at Biggio's read a poem to their beloved team:
Dear Houston Astros,
We love you so much
Last season was awesome
Winning the series was clutch!
Now you’re back in the juice box
To start a new season
Your fans crowding the stands
For so many reasons
Yes… we’ve had troubles
Throughout different homes
Empty seats in Minute Maid
To close calls in the Dome
Years we’d been waiting
Though losses, and wins
Love mixed with heartache
But then we got HIM
A 5-foot-6 giant
Who plays his own way
That smiling, second baseman hero
Jose Altuve
Plus Keuchel, Correa
Verlander and Springer,
Bregman and Gattis
A whole team of zingers!
Last summer the rains came
And tore so much apart
From our homes to our landmarks
But not Houston’s heart
You helped bring us together
And out in L.A.,
You crushed those darn Dodgers
We earned history that day.
So thank you dear Astros
The pennant’s where it belongs
Flying so proudly
Proving we ARE Houston strong.
