Texans DE J.J. Watt reacts to 'Skins QB Alex Smith's season-ending leg injury

Redskins quarterback Alex Smith was carted off during the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Houston Texans after suffering a leg injury. He was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

In the third quarter of the Houston Texans’ 23-21 victory over the Washington Redskins, quarterback Alex Smith suffered a gruesome leg injury that forced him to make an early exit. Smith was carted off the field following a sack from J.J. Watt and D.J. Reader, and did not return.

Backup quarterback Colt McCoy filled in for the 13-year veteran the rest of the game. Soon after the conclusion of the contest, it was announced by Redskins’ head coach Jay Gruden that Smith suffered a fractured fibula and tibia, which will require season-ending surgery.

Washington’s season, which had the potential to result in a division win and playoff appearance, is now looking pretty dark. Texans’ defensive end J.J. Watt took to Twitter minutes after Houston’s victory over the Redskins to comment on Smith’s injury. Here’s what the three-time NFL Defensive Player Of The Year had to say:

“Thoughts are with Alex. Absolutely gutted about it. Never want to see that for anyone ever. Wishing you all the best brother.”
