Four women in wheelchairs - Tiphany Adams, Mia Schaikewitz, Auti Angel and Angela Rockwood - are the subject of a new reality show airing on the Sundance Channel called Push Girls.
CBS News correspondent Sharyl Attkisson recently spent some time with these women to learn more about their lives and what they hope to do with their new show. Push Girls follows the longtime friends - who all met after they became paralyzed - through life as they encounter love and loss. Three are paraplegics, paralyzed from the waist down. One, Rockwood, is a quadriplegic, paralyzed from the neck down with only limited use of her arms.
Tuesday on CBS This Morning, Annette Ross spoke to co-host Charlie Rose about her hopes for the show. Ross was paralyzed from the waist down 12 years ago while giving birth to her second child. I hope (the show) brings attention to disabilities more than anything else, and that it shows the person, not the wheelchair.
Ross produced a half-hour documentary called Stronger than Fate that follows four people whose lives are transformed by a random accident, and their struggles to overcome their physical obstacles.
What s great about the show, is the girls are saying, We embrace life, we re going after life, I expect the same things out of life that you re looking for out of life, Ross said.
