Volunteers sought for kids' Christmas party after gifts were stolen off porch

Shelby Roquemore purchased several games, as well as arts and crafts, for a Christmas party Tuesday at the Children's Center in Galveston, but porch pirates stole her packages.

HOUSTON — A Spring Branch woman is seeking volunteers to help with a party for kids in need after toys meant for them were stolen from her front porch.

Shelby Roquemore purchased several games, as well as arts and crafts, for a Christmas party Tuesday at the Children's Center in Galveston, which serves children with no parents, foster children and at-risk youth.

“I’ve got family. Then I think about them on Christmas morning and it’s just another day," said Shelby Roquemore. "It sounds like I’m being emotional, I’m being overly sentimental, but the thought of not having family to spend Christmas with just hurts.”

The packages were stolen by porch pirates days before the party, which left Roquemore distressed and in need of help. Roquemore said although people offered to replace the gifts, she bought more and encouraged those interested in helping to donate their time for Tuesday's party.

Roquemore shared this photo with KHOU 11, showing the new games she plans to give the children.

For those who would like to give their time, Roquemore says they need volunteers for the party Tuesday. You can sign up to volunteer here.

If you would like to donate games, each child has filled out a Christmas wish list here.
