Off-duty Woodlands firefighter shot, killed after fight with homeowner in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Texas — A firefighter in The Woodlands was shot and killed Sunday morning after an argument at a home in Montgomery, the sheriff’s office said.

Nicholas Daniel, who was employed by The Woodlands Fire Department, was shot to death by a homeowner in the 28000 block of Denn Court Drive.

Daniel and the homeowner had argued at a party earlier the night before, and the altercation spilled into the early morning hours. Daniel, according to the shooter, confronted him as his home, where the resident said he felt threatened.

The homeowner called the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office around 12:36 a.m., indicating he shot someone he believed to be dead. Daniel was shot multiple times during the altercation with the homeowner.

The exact circumstances surrounding the altercation were unclear as of Sunday evening.

Investigators are still looking into the shooting, which will be presented to a grand jury for charges.
