MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — A man found dead in an SUV that had crashed into a creek in Montgomery County on Sunday morning had been there for days, according to authorities.
Around 9 a.m., a bicyclist reported seeing the SUV in Lake Creek off Honea Egypt Road.
When authorities got to the scene, they saw the partially submerged vehicle on its side. They said there were a couple of alligators nearby, which added difficulty to the recovery efforts.
The man's body was found in the driver's seat. He was later identified as 50-year-old Kristopher Lacy, who lived close to the crash scene. Family members said they had seen him recently, but investigators said he had been inside the crashed SUV for two to three days.
Investigators said they think the SUV he was driving lost control as it approached the bridge over Lake Creek and rolled over several times before landing on the passenger side in the water.
Recovery crews were able to pull Lacy's body out of the vehicle. It was brought to the Montgomery County Forensic Center for autopsy. They also pulled the SUV out of the water.
Here's an update that was provided at the scene by Montgomery County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Wayne Mack:
