Extra security in place in Sheldon ISD after social media threat

District officials say students will be checked for prohibitive items as they arrive for school.

HOUSTON -- Sheldon ISD say a social media threat against C.E. King Middle School led to extra security precautions on campus early Tuesday.

District officials say students will be checked for prohibitive items as they arrive for school. Law enforcement will be on hand as staff looks over the students.

The district posted the following statement:

"Sheldon ISD administrators were notified last night that a student had posted a message on social media that could be perceived as a threat against C. E. King Middle School. This morning, the district has decided to take an immediate course of action by conducting a compliance check at KMS.

During the compliance check, students will be checked for prohibitive items by staff members, and law enforcement will on hand and part of the process.

Sheldon ISD continues to err on the side of caution for the safety and security of its students and staff members by taking all potential threats and/or allegations seriously. Those responsible for falsifying information will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Parents, also please take this time to talk to your students and explain to them the serious consequences for falsifying information – especially in light of some of the horrific events that have recently happened at public school districts throughout the nation."

Overnight there were also concerns in Katy ISD due to similar social media threats. Authorities there say the threat is not credible.

On Monday, a student at Stevenson MS in HISD was arrested after also allegedly posting a threat online.
