HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A body was found in a submerged vehicle in east Harris County on Tuesday, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
Gonzalez said a Harris County Sheriff's Office deputy was flagged down around 4 p.m. about a vehicle that was submerged in water along the East Freeway at Brookshire Street in Channelview. The car was almost completely submerged.
When the car was pulled out of the water, a body was found. Gonzalez said it was badly decomposed.
"Just based on the initial observations, it's impossible to tell if it's a male or female that was in the vehicle. It does appear to be an adult. It's not a recent missing persons case. It could be that it's been there for a while. It doesn't look to be a fresh vehicle where it was just recently in there," Gonzalez said.
Gonzalez said the vehicle is possibly linked to the case of a missing person. He said he would provide details about the missing person case to the Houston Police Department. HPD said it wouldn't comment on the case until it got identification from the medical examiner's office.
It's unclear if the body found was a man or woman and their age is also unknown. Circumstances surrounding the missing person case are also not known.
