TABC investigating South Houston venue after mom killed in crash

Erick Raphael Hernandez is accused of driving drunk from the Frontera Events Venue in the 1200 block of Houston Blvd. and crashing into a black SUV.

HOUSTON – The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission has opened an investigation into a venue in South Houston to determine whether the business contributed to improperly serving alcohol to a 19-year-old.

Erick Raphael Hernandez is accused of driving drunk from the Frontera Events Venue in the 1200 block of Houston Blvd. and crashing into a black SUV.

A young woman driving the SUV died on the scene. Her mother and her 1-year-old child were in the SUV and were injured in the crash.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office charged Hernandez with intoxication manslaughter.

“This is another horrible reminder of the dangers of drinking and driving, particularly during the holidays. This painful lesson illustrates the importance of consuming alcohol responsibly and protecting one another. If you have a friend who you believe has had too much, help them get home safely by finding alternative transportation or by choosing a designated driver,” said TABC Chairman Kevin Lilly.

Hernandez has bonded out of jail and is expected to appear in court again on Dec. 19.
