Rattled families came home hours late stunned by what they saw and heard after Daniel Trevino shot a sheriff deputy, two officers then killed himself in a standoff on Hartwick Road in northeast Harris County.

“This whole street was blocked off,” Javier Chavez, a neighbor said. “There was helicopters. They evacuated us from the house and there was like two guys on top of the roof like snipers.”

Chavez, a McArthur High School student, told KHOU 11 News that his mother nearly walked out her home into gunfire.

“She came outside and she thought someone was banging on something,” Chavez said. “Then people, the neighbors started running and they were like ‘they’re shooting. They’re shooting. She was kind of taking cover.”

Trevino was not well known. Neighbors next door said they had never seen him before. Many sounded glad to get home safe. Most were back in their homes after 7 p.m.
