HPD: Woman assaulted in restroom at Memorial City Mall

Police said when the 31-year-old victim walked into a restroom around 8:30 a.m., she was ambushed by a man who approached her from behind and placed a trash bag around her neck.

HOUSTON – Houston police are investigating an assault of a woman that occurred at Memorial City Mall Sunday.

Police said when the 31-year-old victim walked into a restroom around 8:30 a.m., she was ambushed by a man who approached her from behind and placed a trash bag around her neck.

The suspect then began strangling the victim until she lost consciousness, police said. He then kicked her repeatedly before fleeing and boarding a METRO bus southbound on Gessner Street.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where doctors say she is expected to survive.

The suspect is described only as a black male, 25 to 35 years old, 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall and 160 to 180 pounds.
