Dramatic jewelry heist with sledgehammers caught on video

The suspects allegedly punched the employee's face, breaking his jaw and fracturing his left eye bone.

HOUSTON - Houston Police are looking for four suspects caught on camera robbing a southwest Houston jewelry store with sledgehammers and assaulting one of the employees.

Police say just before 2 p.m. Aug. 20, four men ran into the J.D. Jewelry Inc. store at PlazaAmericas mall and began breaking jewelry cases with sledgehammers. As the men started taking the jewelry, police say an employee tried stopping them but was punched in the face and kicked while on the ground.

The employee broke his jaw and fractured his left eye bone, according to police.

Officials say once the suspects had the jewelry, they ran to a red hatchback SUV, possibly a Nissan Juke.

The suspects are described as black males ages 15 to 25 years old.

Crime Stoppers is offering a reward up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspects. Tips can be submitted by calling (713) 222-TIPS (8477) or online.
